BMT’s Social Responsibilty
Situated in Stellenbosch’s lush Dorp Street, BMT is more than just a bike shop. Sure, while the acronym translates into Bike, Marathon and Triathlon, the folks at this cycling hub are keenly aware of the impact that bicycles can have on the community, particularly for the underprivileged.
Enter BMT’s social responsibility.
With partnerships that include well-known charities like Qhubeka and Vision Afrika, BMT walks the walk of upliftment by providing cycling and educational opportunities for those folk with very little. Case in point ABSA Cape Epic 2018. With two development teams in the starting lineup, the BMT Fairtree Academy duo of Luyanda Thobigunya and Baphelele Mbobo rolled across the finish line at Val de Vie in a highly creditable 81st position and second overall in the Exxaro Special Jersey competition. BMT Academy Didata’s Siyabulela Tutu and Zola Ngxakeni followed closely in 101st overall after eight days of dust, mountains and farmlands, marking a great success for the BMT Fairtree Academy.
Together with shop owner Chris Norton and manager Unathi Msophi, team captain Thando Nthuthu is clearly doing a great job in nurturing local riders. With 11 riders falling under the BMT Fairtree stable, the sky’s the limit.
